Sending Messages

To send a message to all the people currently subscribed to the list, just send mail to div45_cos@lists.apa.org. This is called “sending mail to the list,” because you send mail to a single address and listserv forwards it to all the people who have subscribed. This address (div45_cos@lists.apa.org) is also called the “list address”. You must never try to send any command to that address, as it would be distributed to all the people who have subscribed.

Note that the “list address” for messages to the group (div45_cos@lists.apa.org) is different from the address given above for commands (listserv@lists.apa.org, sometimes called the “listserv address”).  It is very important to understand the difference between the two, but fortunately it is not complicated.  The listserv address handles all commands for setting up and managing your subscription to the list.  Commands sent to this address are handled automatically, so only recognized commands are implemented – if you send an email here trying to reach the group, nothing will happen.  On the other hand, mail sent to the list address (div45_cos@lists.apa.org) functions similarly to “reply all” or a group text – it will go to everyone.

Send a message to everyone on the list: div45_cos@lists.apa.org
