COVID-19 Impact Across and Within Ethnically Diverse Communities: A Collaborative Research Project Across US Organizations
The COVID-19 pandemic has been particularly devastating for communities of color. A large cross-cultural project was launched in 2020-21 to assess the needs of communities of color in the US with the express aim of informing stakeholders and policymakers about the physical, economic, and mental health impact of the pandemic. The National Latinx Psychological Association, the Association of Black Psychologists, the Asian American Psychological Association, the American Psychological Association, and the Indigenous Wellness Research Institute worked together to design an assessment that examined impact and needs across ethnically diverse communities, as well as challenges specific to each community. Highlights of findings are reported and the process of collaborating across organizations is discussed. Presenters will describe the next phase of the research which will move into a deep dive of ongoing issues and future considerations regarding the medium and long-term effects of the pandemic. Participants will also be invited to give input on perspectives and observations from their communities and perceived needs for research.
Project team member, Dr. Evie Garcia will moderate the discussion between representatives from research teams and audience participants.
