Graduate Student Representative’s Column
Keoshia Harris
Greetings Division 45 Family,
It was great to see you all at the 2021 Division 45 Research Conference. It was a breath of fresh air to be able to connect with like-minded scholars and to engage in fruitful conversations related to creating better experiences for communities of color. The student committee looks forward to meeting more of you at the virtual 2021 APA Conference. We have a mentoring event scheduled for students, Links and Shoulders. There will be opportunities to socialize and have conversations with top scholars in the field. All levels of education are welcome: undergrad, masters, and doctoral! Specific details related to the event will be provided on our social media accounts. Follow us on Twitter: @apadiv45; Facebook: Division 45 Student Members; Instagram: @apa_division45.
In the upcoming months, we will also be sending out applications for positions on the student committee. If you want to be more involved in Division 45 and value the Division 45 mission, you should consider applying for a leadership position. Student committee duties entail meeting for 1 hour monthly, assisting with convention planning, and ultimately, advocating for students. The application deadline will be after APA and will be announced on the student listserv.
This past year has not been without obstacles and unforeseen challenges. Despite the things we may have overcome individually, we all have something to celebrate. Whether it is successfully completing a semester, being in good health, or securing a fellowship – I just want to encourage you to appreciate the small joys in your life. Take care and we will see you soon!
