CALL FOR NOMINATIONS OF DIVISION 45 OFFICERS

Please consider nominating others or yourself for one of the the offices (see below).

Unless otherwise specified, each position is a 3-year appointment beginning January 1, 2018.  All nominees must hold APA membership as well as be a member of D45. Please read the description for each position. You may be nominated or self-nominate for a position. Send all nominations to Dr. Jacque Gray by 5pm February 10, 2017 (DrJacqueGray@gmail.com).

Anyone nominated for a position, must send an email to Jacque Gray confirming her/his acceptance of the nomination. A simple email message will suffice. Once confirmed, each nominee provides a photo and a 250-word statement on why they seek the position. The picture of the candidate plus the statement will appear on the official ballot sent by APA to Division members.

All elected members are expected to attend the Executive Committee (EC) meetings in August at the APA Convention and the Mid-winter meeting in January.

Open Positions

Responsibilities:

 

  • Define their presidential theme and initiatives to be undertaken during their presidential year.  This theme will also be reflected in the Call for Proposals for the Convention that will take place during the presidential year.
  • Appoint the Program Chair(s) who will be responsible for making the Call for Proposals, receiving the proposals, and leading the Program Committee to select proposals consistent with the Presidential theme.
  • Become familiar with the Division 45 Bylaws.
  • Attend EC meetings.
  • Serve in any capacity as requested by the President.
  • At the last EC meeting of the year, the current President typically exchanges a gift with the President-Elect.
  • Serve as President-Elect in 2018, President in 2019, and Past-President in 2020.

A Secretary-Elect shall be elected in the second year of the prior three-year term to serve one year concurrently with the Secretary. The term for this position will be from 2017-2019.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with D45 President to prepare Agenda for all EC meetings and send to EC members
  • Call for and receive EC and Committee Chair reports for inclusion in the meeting agenda
  • Send agenda (including minutes of last meeting and all submitted reports) to EC members prior to meeting
  • Attend EC meetings and teleconferences and take minutes
  • Prepare minutes of EC and Business meetings and distribute to EC members
  • Be prepared to present minutes of prior year’s meeting at the Division 45 Business meeting held at the APA Annual Convention
  • Update the EC list annually at the Fall EC meeting (contact info and emails)
  • Send updated EC list to webmaster for revision on website
  • Send updated EC list to Division Services for listserv
  • Send updated list to EC members
  • Make all approved changes to Bylaws; facilitate Bylaws Amendments

Responsibilities:

  • Attend APA Council of Representatives Meetings 2 times per year and represent Division 45 interests.
  • Attend Ethnic Minority Caucus meetings and represent Division 45 interests.
  • Keep Division 45 Executive Committee apprised of relevant issues from Council meetings.
  • Write an article for Fall and Spring FOCUS newsletter to keep Division 45 membership apprised of relevant issues from the Council of Representatives.
  • Other duties as designated by the Division 45 President.

Election is open for one Member-at-large on the Asian American slate. Six other slates (African American, Latino/a, Native American, Diversity, Arab American, and Person of Color LGBTQ) are currently filled and not open for election this year. Seven Members-at-Large are elected by the Division membership and serve staggered terms of three years each.  Collectively, they are responsible for the Convention Hospitality Suite, the Links & Shoulders Mentoring Program, Chairing of the Science Committee, Coordination of the Division 45/35 Dance, and Coordination of the Nominations for APA Boards and Committees. Precise tasks and division of responsibilities are decided amongst the Members-at-Large.  Once Members-at-Large take responsibility for one of these tasks, they keep it for at least one year.  These tasks can be redistributed at the discretion of the President and with the agreement of the Members-at-Large.  Each Member-at-Large is also assigned to serve as liaison to one of the APA Directorates. Any additional duties assigned by the President. The duties will be decided once all the MALs’ have been elected, although some of the duties have already been assigned that are related to the APA Convention in Denver.

 

Other MAL Responsibilities include:

 

  • Service as Liaison to APA Science Directorate
  • Attend all EC meetings, read materials, vote
  • Write articles for FOCUS in Spring and Fall
  • Any additional duties assigned by the President
  • Maintain and update the duties and timelines of the position

The Student Representative serves a two-year term starting January 2018 and ending in December 2019.  To be eligible, candidates for the position of graduate student representative must have at least two remaining years in their graduate program at the start of the position. 

·         This is an elective position and serves as the student voting voice on Division 45 Executive Committee.

·         The Student Representative is required to attend the Division 45 Mid-Winter Meeting and APA Convention every year. This student should expect to be present for Division 45 Executive Committee monthly teleconference meetings and communicate via email regarding committee activities on a regular basis. 

·         Serves as chair of the Student Committee: Student Representative organizes monthly calls with committee members, updates and maintains Student Facebook/Instagram accounts, maintains the Division 45 student list serve, and assist committee members in completing projects.
