Hi all! I am looking for African American/Black and Nigerian youth in CA and TX to participate in my dissertation study called the New African Diaspora Study. Please send this flyer out through your networks. Also participants will receive a $10 gift card for completing the survey.
We are talking to Black youth about race, ethnicity, and experiences that affect their school success.
Some questions ask youth: • How do you racially and ethnically identify? • What sort of classes do you take? • What type of discrimination have you faced in the classroom/at school?
We want to know how Black youth come to understand their racial and ethnic identities and the influences of those identities on their school success.
The New African Diaspora study is surveying African American/Black and Nigerian youth in CA and TX who completed grades 9-12 during the 2016-2017 academic year. They are paid $10 for a confidential survey that takes about 20-35 minutes.
The survey is done online and can be done on a laptop, tablet, or smartphone.
Parent approval is required for participation of children 13-17. Please visit tinyurl.com/NewAfricanDiasporaPC for the permission form. The website provides more information about the project. You may read about it and you can call us at (408) 888-8240 or email firstname.lastname@example.org to learn more and to ask questions.
I hope this email finds you well. You may remember that CEMA is producing a video series on race related stress . Last year, we sent out a call to conduct interviews with psychologists of color whose work intersects with stress and more specifically race related stress. We did quite a bit of recording at Convention last year. Currently, we have contributions for scholars such as Helen Neville, PhD; Kevin Nadal, PhD; Derald Sue, PhD; Thomas Parham, PhD and James Jackson, PhD. But, the series is missing contributions from an ethnically representative cadre of experts. Right now, the video is heavily African American and I would like to diversify the series a bit. We particularly need contributions from our American Indian/Alaska Native and Latina/o colleagues but could also use more participation from Asian American psychologists as well. We will be filming again at convention this year. Please let me know if you know of colleagues that would be appropriate and might be interest/available to film during convention this year. I can provide more information regarding the questions and the times we have available for filming if interested. Art has agreed to participate already but we are open to more participation from this group or from colleagues that you recommend. Any thoughts or assistance you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
